As I typically do each year about this time, here is a reminder to be very careful of venomous snakes as you hike along your favorite trail or waterway. Snakes are likely more scared of you than vice-versa, so if you do encounter one, simply give it some space and move on. If by chance you should be bitten, seek medical attention immediately. The below image of a Cottonmouth was taken a mere 10 feet away from a family with young children paying very little heed to their environment. Should they have been unfortunate enough to step too close or worse yet on-top of this snake, their day would have ended much the worse than it began unfortunately!
