A few weeks ago, I had heard about this project (Detailed below) to develop a series of large glass mosaic murals in Fort Worth depicting native wildlife and fauna on six huge monuments. They held a local competition for photographers to submit their best wildlife shots and be apart of this awesome project. I decided to give it a go, and what do you know, two of my shots were selected (American Green Tree Frog & Rough Green Snake).
Soon they will be transitioned into MOSAIC works of art prominently and permanently displayed for all to see in the city of Fort Worth.
DESCRIPTION
Fort
Worth Public Art has selected artist Norie Sato to develop a public
artwork for the Chisholm Trail Parkway (SH 121 T), currently under
construction by the North Texas Tollway Authority. The project will
enhance the visual quality of the Chisholm Trail Parkway for motorists
and pedestrians by celebrating water and the natural environment through
which the Parkway traverses.
The project is under the auspices of the Fort Worth Public Art Program. The mosaics are to be made by Franz Mayer Studio, an expert studio in Germany. There will be 2 types of mosaics: 1 group of mosaics (12) will be on the 6 Bridge Monuments focused on birds (Approx 8’ x 5’ each) where the Chisholm Trail Parkway crosses the Clear Fork of the Trinity River. The other group will be on 10 round columns (2’ diameter x 13’ tall) focused on other creatures and/or plants scattered along the Parkway to mark where the Parkway crosses water…some water creeks are visible, others are underground in culverts. The entire group helps to create a relationship between water in the region, nature related to the passage of water and the man-made human passages through Fort Worth. The project is projected to be completed in the summer of 2014.
